About the Position

As a Security Solutions Architect (SSA) within the Financial Market & Banking Operations (FMBO) Portfolio in the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department, you will play a key role in strengthening the Bank of Canada’s security architecture and cyber risk assessment capability.

 

You will support the Bank’s ongoing transition to cloud‑based solutions and provide security architecture and cyber risk assessment expertise across a range of programs and enterprise initiatives.

 

Working closely with solution architects, delivery teams, and cyber risk stakeholders, you will help ensure that technology solutions are secure by design, aligned with enterprise architecture principles, and meet the Bank’s cyber security standards and risk frameworks. 

 

Your Future Responsibilities

In order to succeed in this role, you will:

  • Design and review security solution architectures to ensure alignment with business, operational, technical, and security requirements
  • Support cloud enablement and migration initiatives by assessing security posture and architecture for cloud hosted solutions
  • Conduct cyber security and risk assessments in accordance with the Bank’s cyber risk assessment frameworks
  • Apply threat modelling techniques to inform security design and risk decisions
  • Work collaboratively with solution and project teams to identify, track, and mitigate cyber risks
  • Provide architecture guidance and reviews to support secure, resilient solution delivery
  • Contribute to the evolution of security architecture processes, standards, tools, and templates
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to inform security and architecture decisions

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

As a Security Solutions Architect:

  • You are able to analyze complex technical environments and articulate clear, risk based security recommendations
  • You are comfortable working across application, infrastructure, and cloud domains
  • You communicate effectively with both technical and non technical stakeholders
  • You can balance delivery timelines with sound security and architecture decisions
  • You demonstrate strong collaboration skills and contribute positively to cross functional teams
  • You are adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic delivery environment

 

Your education and experience

  • University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of IT related experience, including:
    • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience in developing cyber security architecture
    • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience working in a cyber assessment program
  • Experience participating in or supporting cyber risk or security assessment programs
  • Demonstrated experience with security control frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, NIST CSF, ISO 27001, SOC 2)

or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

 

Assets:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure)
  • Experience with cyber based concepts such as Zero Trust Architecture and Data Loss Prevention
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, or CISM
  • Experience in financial services, banking, or payments environments

Language requirement

The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. Remote work / Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office. For this position, should you not live within reasonable commuting distance of the office, you will be able to work 100% remote (within Canada) for the duration of this term.

    • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $126,765 to $149,135 (job grade 18)
    • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
    • Flexible and comprehensive benefits so you can choose the level of health and dental coverage that meets your needs
    • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) that you can purchase to add to your vacation entitlement
    • Option to join the indexed, defined-benefit pension plan after 24 consecutive months of service
