What you will do 
We are currently seeking a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to join the Financial Market & Banking Operations (FMBO) Portfolio in the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department. 

 

Note: Our position is to be filled either at our Head Office location in Ottawa or at our Calgary Operational site depending on selected candidate preference.

 

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Business Solutions & Architecture, you will be part of the data scrum team to support existing and deliver new analytical reports using the Qlik tool suite, within the overall FMBO Data Warehouse platform. You will also be acting as Qlik Administrator to provide administration, management, and evergreening functions for the required Qlik components.

 

You are accountable for development of new Qlik applications to meet business requirements, as well as support and maintenance of the Qlik tool suite, including Qlik Sense and NPrinting. You ensure that coding best practices and Qlik standards/processes are followed, and the Qlik tools are well maintained and supports the required Service Level Agreement. As Qlik Administrator, you are accountable to ensure that the overall Qlik technology platform and environments will be running in an efficient and supportable manner.

 

The FMBO Portfolio provides the applications, software, hardware and technical support to the business functions of the Funds Management and Banking, and Financial Markets departments. You will participate in our transformation journey to Agile. 

 

As a BI Developer using Qlik tool suite, you will:
Development

  • Meet with business representatives to gather and understand business requirements for Qlik Sense applications
  • Analyze all gathered requirements and propose new apps/worksheets for business
  • Build, test, and deploy Qlik Sense applications to all environments
  • Create design specification for Qlik Sense applications and update Developer Handbook
  • Update coding standard for Data load scripts 
  • Manage delivered code using the team’s version control software repository
  • Provide regular day-to-day support and enhancements for delivered applications and reports

 

Administration

  • Ongoing management of the Qlik Sense server platform (multiple node deployment)
  • Monitoring of the Qlik Sense server platform for performance and availability
  • Management of all Qlik Sense server configurations
  • Management of access credentials and connectivity to all source systems. (data connections info)
  • Management of the reload schedule for all Qlik Sense apps
  • Daily monitoring of Qlik Sense app reloads and work with application support to fix problems
  • User access maintenance including user accounts and security rules management
  • Application and management of server licenses and certificates
  • Apply Qlik Sense patches on server and communicate changes to users
  • Coordinate and manage resolution of any identified bugs with Qlik Sense

Your education and experience
This position requires a bachelor`s degree in computer science, software engineering or other related discipline along with two years of hands-on experience in the following areas or an equivalent combination of education and experience with other BI tool suits, such as Tableau, Cognos, and Power BI, may be considered. 

  • building Qlik Sense applications, using standard coding practice, for Qlik 2017 or higher
  • building NPrinting reports
  • administration of Qlik Sense and NPrinting environments for Qlik 2017 or higher
  • working in an agile and dynamic environment

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $79,100 to $93,000 (job grade 16)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
