What you will do
We are currently seeking a Solution Architect to join the Financial Market & Banking Operations (FMBO) Portfolio in the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Banking Operations you will work closely with Scrum Teams to lead the development of Banking Operation technical solution architectures for various projects within the Portfolio. You are accountable for creating architectures for the development and integration of business and information systems to enable streamlined application interfaces, improved application redundancy, efficient distribution of data and improve service reliability in support of business objectives. You ensure that the integration of services, data flow and infrastructure architectures meet evolving business and operational requirements as well as standards for reliability, scalability and availability.


As a member of the Bank of Canada ITS architecture community, you will also work alongside other Solutions Architects and the information technology community to help review and critique other initiative solutions to ensure they are closely aligned with the Bank’s road maps and best practices. 


 More specifically you will :

  • participate in all phases of the project life cycle to implement the required information technology, adding technical know-how, creativity and a seasoned perspective to initiatives and teams
  • play the role of the lead technical authority and responsible for planning all activities leading to the development of the solution architecture
  • identify technical issues and risks and define mitigation approach
  • analyze the current solutions environment to identify deficiencies and opportunities for simplification as part of evergreening projects
  • facilitate the evaluation and selection of hardware and software technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations and their implementation and migration into operations
  • research and monitor technology developments and industry trends; assess their applicability, functionality and reliability for the Bank; and recommend technologies that will enhance productivity and the achievement of the client’s business objectives

 
What you need to succeed

As an experienced Solutions Architect, you are a self-starter with the ability to quickly grasp the essence of complex issues. You are an effective communicator, able to clearly convey key points, organize content, and write in a style appropriate to the audience and purpose of the document and presentation. You can quickly grasp the essence of a complex issue and communicate key points. You are self-motivated and independent, requiring little supervision and with the ability to function effectively as part of a team. You will contribute towards creating positive team dynamics by engaging in productive and respectful conversations, dealing with conflict in a timely way, helping team members who may be struggling and having a positive attitude towards the team's goals. 
 

Nice-to-have

  • exposure to diverse work environments, with a broad understanding of multiple business sectors, hardware and software technologies and IT security
  • recognized IT industry certification such as TOGAF, Zachman, ITIL and project-management certification

knowledge of: 

  • Cloud Environment and implementation
  • Leading vendor platforms, such as RedHat, Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft and IBM 
  • Enterprise Java applications

 

Your education and experience
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of five years of experience in a solutions architect role within organizations of 200 or more employees utilizing various high-availability solutions, is required. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of relevant hands-on experience with the Bank’s Infrastructure or Cyber Platforms. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

 

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. Although the position language requirement is English or French essential, we do encourage everyone to improve second their language proficiency for future career growth and to contribute towards fostering a bilingual environment.

Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $124,279 to $146,211 (job grade 18)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
