What you will do  
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented IT Hardware Technician to support datacenter operations in the National Capital Region and multiple Canadian offices. The role focuses on deploying and maintaining hardware, including the physical installation and power-up (Rack & Stack) of servers, peripherals, and network equipment, as well as replacing hardware components such as RAM, hard drives, power supplies, PDUs, and cables. The technician will deploy and manage network cabling (copper and fiber), troubleshoot hardware installation issues, and respond to operational demands through the ticketing system. 
 
In addition, the position involves coordinating and validating the work of third-party contractors performing infrastructure projects, responding to scheduled and emergency dispatches to Data Center for after-hours service calls and security escorts, preventive maintenance, or testing, ensuring adherence to defined scopes and holding contractors accountable for completion. The technician will also maintain accurate documentation of deployed IT assets and update the DCIM tool while managing Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) with manufacturers. This hands-on role is critical to supporting and sustaining the Bank’s IT infrastructure across local datacenters and remote offices. 
 
What you need to succeed 
As an ideal candidate, your mindset is focused on delivering support functions on behalf of the owners of the systems, to help them keep their systems and associated data securely protected and available for running their businesses. Support functions will cover a wide range of activities relating to installation, maintenance, and ongoing operations of the cabinets, equipment, and communications services inside the Data Center. 
  
About your skills: 

  • A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in the installation and power-up (Rack & Stack) of servers, peripherals, and network equipment. 
  • At least three (3) years of experience in IT Operations, with a strong understanding of the operational capabilities and challenges associated with data center environments. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cabling infrastructure, including deployment, management, and maintaining detailed documentation of newly installed devices. 
  • A solid understanding of data center facilities infrastructure, such as HVAC systems, service entrances, UPS systems, and related components. 
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage onsite support for third-party contractors performing infrastructure projects, preventive maintenance, or testing, while ensuring adherence to defined scopes and quality standards. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a keen attention to detail. 
  • Proven aptitude for identifying opportunities to improve day-to-day operations and implementing appropriate solutions. 
  • High standards for workmanship, organization, and cleanliness in tasks, equipment, and workspaces. 

 

Assets 

  • Knowledge or experience with ticketing systems and monitoring systems.  
  • An analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems. 
  • Experience with dynamic Co-location and Managed Services environments. 
  • Experience leading or coordinating projects, programs, and operations to review incoming needs and provides installation requirements based on space, power and cooling. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Data Center architectures and systems for raised floor space: equipment cabinets, containment solutions, final power distribution, computer systems, network systems, cabling systems, and communications circuits. 

 
Your education and experience 
Five (5) years, with a bachelor's degree in a related field or other combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $92,346 to $108,643 (job grade 16)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (3%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
