The team
You will join agile teams of skilled engineers, testers, and business analysts supporting the Bank of Canada’s Financial Markets & Banking Operations. These markets play a key role in how the Bank’s policy rate influences interest rates and exchange rates, helping achieve its monetary policy objectives.

The Collateral Management Services team enables critical domestic market and overnight settlement operations through a COTS-based platform (Commercial off the shelf). The team is responsible for system integrations, application hosting, and maintaining resilient production services. 

 

What you will do 
You will lead development and operational excellence, using hands-on technical expertise and strong collaboration to deliver reliable production operations and enable high performing teams.  

In addition, you will:
• Provide deep technical expertise in the development, support, and maintenance of complex system integrations, ensuring alignment with enterprise and solution architecture standards. 
• Drive improvements in operational excellence through automation, DevOps, and AI adoption. You will contribute to the technology roadmap and help maintain service level objectives (SLOs) and key performance indicators (KPIs). 
• Lead the resolution of complex production issues and incidents. You will drive root cause analysis and deep technical investigations across applications and infrastructure.
What you need to succeed
You are an experienced software engineer and technical lead who thrives in environments where development, operational excellence, and continuous improvement of critical systems are equally important.


In addition, you have:
• Strong hands-on technical leadership skills and the ability to solve complex problems. You are comfortable introducing new technologies and ways of working, including AI, DevOps automation, and SRE practices (e.g., Dynatrace, GitHub Copilot).
• Advanced experience with Java and Spring technologies, including integration patterns. Our integration stack includes Spring Integration, Spring Boot, Java, Maven, JUnit, and Mockito.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a focus on mentoring, knowledge sharing, and building effective cross-functional relationships.
• Experience working with application containerization and container platforms such as RedHat Openshift or Kubernetes.  


Nice to have:
• Knowledge of production operations, including site reliability, security and compliance standards, and disaster recovery practices. 
• Experience with cloud-based application hosting (preferably Azure) and familiarity with cloud based DevOps tools
• Experience working with vendor-supported enterprise applications and coordinating across multiple teams. Or, experience working in enterprise or product-based environments where development, production stability, and ongoing support must be continuously balanced.
• Ability to analyse application data and use SQL for troubleshooting.

 

Your education and experience
• This position requires a bachelor's degree or college diploma in computer science, software development or a relevant field with a minimum of 10+ years of experience in application development, systems integration; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Language requirement

Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $126,765 to $149,135 (job grade 18)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
