As part of the Communications Department, the Translation and Editorial Services team ensures that the Bank of Canada effectively reaches its French-speaking audiences across the country. The successful candidate will play a key role in achieving this mission, working closely with a large team of passionate and dynamic language professionals.
What you will do
Your main duties will be to translate general and specialized documents from English to French. This includes the Bank’s key publications, speeches, technical economic texts and other high-visibility material.
You will also be asked to:
- adapt French content for different audiences
- contribute to the internal terminology database
- revise, as needed, the output of colleagues or external service providers
- offer advice on French language and French-Canadian cultures to Bank employees and senior leadership
- actively manage special translation projects, thinking innovatively to find solutions to problems
- occasionally coordinate the proofreading of specific publications
What you need to succeed
You have mastered the art of translating and adapting content, even on complex topics. You like taking on challenges and are looking for a stimulating work environment. The idea of seeing your translations in the media inspires you, and you have a strong interest for the economy. Fluent in both French and English, you know and understand our country’s diverse French-speaking audiences. You keep abreast of new technologies that facilitate your work as a language professional, and use them readily.
In addition:
- you have acquired solid research methods, are thorough and exercise sound judgment
- you have strong analytical skills and a constant desire to learn
- you can easily adapt to changing operational requirements and priorities
- you are able to work effectively, whether independently or within a team
- you have a strong knowledge of desktop applications (i.e., Microsoft Office suite), commonly used translation databases as well as computer-assisted translation tools
- you are very familiar with the principles of inclusive and plain language and you know how to apply them to the translation of texts for the general public
You also demonstrate the Bank’s core competencies in your day-to-day activities and interactions. In particular, you:

Your education and experience
The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in translation from English to French, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience and proven ability to translate high-quality texts without revision. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Nice-to-have
- Work experience as a translator in a high-performance translation team
- Experience in economic and financial translation
- Strong knowledge of computer-assisted translation tools, especially LogiTerm
- Certified translator from English to French (i.e., OTTIAQ or ATIO)
Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional).

Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $92,346 to $108,643 (job grade 16)
- The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (3%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
