What you will do 
As a Monitoring Specialist, you are responsible for the ongoing support, maintenance and improvement of the Bank’s monitoring platform and operation logging solutions. You will provide business and technical support, tuning, configuration and administration, including associated application dashboards. You also assist in performance monitoring, capacity planning of the monitoring platform and software including the range of management packs that support the alerting and monitoring of the production environments.


You are responsible for the coordination and implementation of changes to both the production & test environments.  You work closely with the other application, platform and infrastructure support groups to ensure the highest level of availability to the Bank.


Note:  This poster will also be used to fill a 3 year-term position and can be fully remote


As a Service Monitoring Specialist, you:

  • participate in the planning, design and implementation of relevant architecture, hardware, software and customized software changes
  • provide Maintenance, Monitoring & Patching for systems within your area of expertise; monitor performance of systems and service agreements to ensure that ongoing service-delivery standards, service levels and IT policies are met
  • Support migration of data sources & log traffic
  • work autonomously to analyze diagnostic information and/or resolve uncommon or complex problems in a multi-functional setting, assessing and communicating technological issues that affect the functional or corporate level, and recommend solutions to more senior colleagues or management
  • provide IT advice to management and colleagues on the appropriate direction, evolution and usage of technology (architectures, systems, issues, opportunities, policies and standards) related to your field of expertise
  • Pro-actively monitor Log Feeds /flows/alerts for data interruptions and server health
  • develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external counterparts (partners, clients and suppliers) to support operational objectives
  • provide on-the-job training to colleagues and clients


What you need to succeed
You are an effective communicator and have excellent analytical skills which enables you to efficiently prioritize and organize competing work demands with little oversight.  Your strong organizational and problem-solving skills enable you to gather and document business and functional requirements for implementing monitoring. You are a great team player, self-starter and have an eye for change initiatives. 


  • Log Management / Monitoring experience
  • Syslog-NG Experience
  • Splunk knowledge
  • Solarwinds Knowledge
  • SCOM (2012 R2, 2016, 1807), vendor Management Packs
  • SCOM Report Customization and SQL Report Server administration.
  • Windows / Linux Basic Operations around file system, and basic admin level.


  • Syslog, Elastic Search/Kibana Reporting tool
  • Networking & application trouble-shooting background
  • Experience with Capacity Management for Log Solutions (Performance Tuning)
  • Knowledge of Splunk log collection structure would be an asset
  • Scripting knowledge
  • experience across a blend of information technology and business settings, ideally in a mix of banking, government or mid- to large-size corporations 


Your education and experience

The position requires a bachelor’s degree or college diploma in computer science with a minimum of 3-5 years of “Hands-On” Operational Log Management / Monitoring experience Previous experience implementing & maintaining Syslog -NG based operational support monitoring processes & procedures

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $71,267 to $83,843 (job grade 15)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
