What you will do 
As a Senior Platform (and DevOps) Administrator, you ensure the stability, reliability, and evolution of the Bank’s operating system platforms across on premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.

 

A key focus of this is supporting, and modernizing existing on-premise infrastructure, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Unix/Linux (including Solaris) platforms, ensuring they remain secure, high performing, and highly available. You will provide technical expertise for daily operations, incident response, root cause analysis, and planned maintenance within the Bank’s data centres.

 

You will also support the migration and operation of workloads into cloud environments, working within a hybrid model as applications and platforms transition over time. his includes maintaining operational continuity during coexisting phases and helping establish cloud operational standards aligned with enterprise security, resilience, and compliance requirements.

 

Automation and DevOps practices are central to the role, improving consistency, reducing operational risk, and increasing reliability across on-premise and cloud platforms. You will use automation to streamline patching, monitoring, software upgrades and ongoing platform support while strengthening security and operational resilience. 

 

In addition, you will:

  • provide senior level operational support for production operating system, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 9 and 10), Unix/Linux (including Solaris), ensuring stability, availability, and recoverability.
  • own and monitor the health, performance, capacity and availability across on-premise and cloud environments, ensuring compliance with service levels, IT policies, and security standards.
  • support for cloud based virtual machines and platform services within a hybrid infrastructure model, ensuring consistent operational practices across environments.
  • participate in cloud migration and modernization initiatives, including workload assessment, migration support, cutovers, stabilization, and post migration operations and the planning and coordination of operational and project based work. 
  • perform incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for uncommon or complex cross platform issues in a multi functional environment, clearly assessing and communicating technical risks, impacts, and recommended solutions to colleagues and management.
  • execute and continuously improve patching, configuration management, system hardening, and upgrade processes across both on premises and cloud systems to improve security and operational resilience.
  • conduct performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning for operating system platforms and the supporting services that enable development, testing, and production environments.
  • develop and maintain automation solutions, standard operating procedures, runbooks, and technical documentation to improve operational efficiency, reliability and support on premise and cloud platforms, applying DevOps and infrastructure as code practices where appropriate.
  • assist with planning, prioritization, and coordination of operational and project based work, including platform upgrades, modernization initiatives, and cloud adoption activities.
  • develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal (e.g., infrastructure teams, portfolio clients, product owners) and external counterparts (infrastructure teams, cloud teams, security, vendors, portfolios, and stakeholders) to support operational objectives, project delivery tasks and providing technical leadership and mentorship as required.


Note - The nature of this work will require additional paid on-call as well as paid overtime. These requirements are subject to change but typically involves an on-call rotation within the team of 1 week on-call every month (estimated) depending on capacity and team requirements.
   

 

What you need to succeed 
You are a proactive, operations focused professional who questions the status quo and takes ownership of complex technical issues and communicate and collaborating effectively across diverse product and development teams. You can self manage, prioritize, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks while building strong working relationships skills. 
  
You bring strong technical leadership, teamwork, negotiation, and the sound technical decision making capabilities to support a large scale 24/7/365, production environment, balancing stability, security, and modernization. 

In addition, you have: 
Proven experience in:  

  • developing and managing automation code through a software development life cycle from creation to deployment in production environments.
  • supporting large-scale environments (1000+ servers) across on-premises, hybrid and cloud platforms.
  • administering and supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows Server production environments, including patching, upgrades, performance tuning, and incident response.
  • using automation to improve system administration and operations, including developing, maintaining, and supporting automation through a structured software development lifecycle.

 

Experience supporting: 

  • Unix/Linux systems, including multi platform or heterogeneous environments (e.g., Solaris).
  • operating cloud based workloads, including virtual machines and platform services, within a hybrid infrastructure model.
  • cloud migration initiatives, including operational support during transitions, coexistence phases, and post migration stabilization.

 

Experience with:

  • Ansible for configuration management and automation across RHEL and Windows Server environments.
  • managing Red Hat Satellite for lifecycle, patching, and compliance management.
  • troubleshooting and ability to perform incident management and root cause analysis in complex, cross platform production environments.

 

Nice-to-have

  • Ability to develop and support Infrastructure as Code (IAC) and automation using tools such as PowerShell
  • Experience with: 
    • Azure DevOps, including CI/CD Pipeline, automated VM builds, Azure cloud build/configuration
    • OpenSCAP
    • VMWare imaged deployments
    • Azure ARC and Azure Migrate.
  • Working knowledge of Git and Vscode
  • Familiar with RHEL leapp upgrading
  • Knowledge of installation, configuration and tuning of Solaris (ver.11.4) servers using OVM 

 

Education and Experience
Your combined education and work experience demonstrate that you have the proficiencies and skills for the role.  We are ideally seeking candidates with a relevant degree/diploma and 7+ years of relevant experience for the Senior Platform Administrator role

Hybrid Work Model

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $111, 055 to $130, 650 (job grade 17)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
