Senior Operations Specialist

About the position
The Senior Operations Specialist provides operational expertise and advice internally to the business line and externally to the Bank and the business environment in the context of the global post-trade processes for securities with a focus on TMX modernization and other key initiatives related to post-trade securities processing. This position contributes directly to tactical business analysis, representing operational aspects of the business at a senior level. 


Your future responsibilities

  • provide subject-matter expertise with regard to critical operations to the business line, to the Bank and to partners within the business environment
  • provide advises around the strategy for advanced straight-through processing technology that automates the post-trade lifecycle from trade capture through to settlement.
  • from an operational perspective, analyze, interpret and assess the impact of future developments within the business environment on the operating framework for critical operations
  • provide the operational perspective to tactical analysis for the business line with the expectation of providing problem definition
  • maintain awareness of current processes and procedures, and analyze to ensure compliance with established business norms
  • identify risks and opportunities and translate this knowledge to improve processes and operations, and recommend revisions to accommodate changing business conditions for improved performance
  • communicate on an ongoing basis with internal and external clients to ensure understanding of client needs and support effective resolution of client inquiries and concerns
  • develop and maintain efficient and collaborative working relationships with external and internal contacts to ensure operational effectiveness
  • contribute to the development of business plans by providing detailed information about service levels, business volumes and resource demands, and by validating provisional plans from operational and client requirements
  • maintain and continually evaluate opportunities to improve business continuity and recovery
  • represent the Bank on external committees to maintain awareness of the business environment and to exercise influence on the new solutions
  • is expected to carry out, on a temporary basis, many of the responsibilities of the Product Owner for HABS in their absence

Your education and experience

  • master’s degree in business administration, commerce, finance or related discipline with five years of experience in a business operational environment


  • bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, finance or related discipline with eight years of experience in a business operational environment



  • understanding of the Bank’s functions, organization, processes and systems
  • familiarity with the Bank’s technological environment and computerized applications 
  • experience in the operational areas of banking and/or finance
  • knowledge of payment, clearing and settlement issues and practices


Your knowledge and skills 
You are an effective communicator and have solid interpersonal, listening and negotiating skills which enables you to establish credibility and respect.  You possess: 

  • a broad view of critical operations in a Bank-wide context, with a high degree of knowledge and appreciation for the role of critical operations in supporting the Canadian financial system and financial system stability 
  • knowledge of business analysis techniques including stakeholder analysis and operational risk assessment
  • working knowledge of business-line processes, procedures, policies, governing legislation, supporting systems and tools 
  • high degree of understanding of the principles, fundamentals, objectives and risks of the business line


Language requirement
English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of intermediate (level 3) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of functional (level 4) in second official language.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $94,100 to $117,600 (job grade 18)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (7 to 10% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
