What you need to know about Digital Experiences (DX) at the Bank of Canada

The Bank of Canada is seeking a Senior Integration & Platform Developer to join the Digital Experiences (DX) team.

DX operates and evolves the Bank’s core digital publishing ecosystem, spanning web infrastructure, websites, web applications, data delivery, and the pipelines that support market-sensitive and policy-cycle releases.

Our platforms deliver policy content, economic data, and time-sensitive information to Canadians, markets, media, and researchers. DX services operate at enterprise scale, supporting fixed delivery events such as Fixed Announcement Dates and major publications, alongside high-volume data services like Valet (handling~20–30M calls per month). The ecosystem includes public websites (bankofcanada.cawww.bankofcanadamuseum.ca ), internal platforms (intranet), and core data and publishing services, including Azure DataMart and the Valet API, as well as the workflows and tools that enable  reliable policy-cycle delivery.

DX is also expanding its ability to support AI-enabled workflows as part of broader Bank capabilities. This includes integrating language-model services into real business processes while meeting strict security and compliance requirements. Maintaining public trust depends on ensuring reliability, timeliness, accuracy, and operational discipline.

How this role fits within the team

This role focuses primarily on the underlying web platforms, integrations, and backend services that enable the Bank’s web presence. It focuses on ensuring platform integrity, seamless cross-system integration, and operational reliability, while closely collaborating with application and workflow delivery teams that leverage these shared capabilities.

What you will do

Platform and integration engineering

  • Build and support backend services and cross-platform integrations across DX systems, including PHP/Laravel, Python applications and high-volume APIs.
  • Design, implement, and support system-to-system integrations spanning web applications, publishing workflows, data platforms, and AI-enabled services, ensuring reliable end-to-end workflows.

AI-enabled platform integration

  • Support governed AI-enabled workflows by integrating approved language-model services with DX platforms and enterprise services (e.g., Azure AI Foundry and AI gateway services) and supporting governed access patterns (e.g., Open WebUI) within production-ready workflows.

Platform operations and reliability

  • Implement and operate Kubernetes-orchestrated services in cloud-aligned environments, ensuring to secure and reliable delivery across DX systems.
  • Strengthen operational resilience through CI/CD automation, practicing disciplined change management, and driving improvements that minimize technical debt and operational risk.
  • Adopt an automation-first approach to recurring issues and reliability enhancements, prioritizing repeatable solutions over one-off fixes.
  • Ensure operational readiness and effective incident response during high-visibility delivery windows by leveraging, monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Grafana, Azure Monitor) and follow established runbooks, while actively participating in change management to deliver secure, traceable, and well-documented updates.

Technical leadership

  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing across the team, including support to co-op students and early-career developers.

What you need to succeed

  • Experience in backend and/or full-stack development, including working with production systems in containerized and cloud-aligned environments.
  • Experience building and supporting APIs and production web applications.
  • Ability to own cross-system integrations end-to-end, ensuring production readiness and operational support, while identifying mitigation strategies and trade-offs to maintain solution quality.
  • Familiarity with Azure services and cloud integration patterns (AWS exposure is an asset).
  • Solid understanding of AI/ML concepts and how language-model and AI services integrate into enterprise workflows (e.g., orchestration, governed tool access, Model Context Protocol concepts).
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively with developers, analysts, and stakeholders and explain trade-offs clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good operational judgement.

AI competencies that matter

  • Systems thinking and comfort working across applications, APIs, data services, and platform tooling.
  • Practical judgement integrating AI into workflows responsibly (privacy, security, governance, and appropriate handling of sensitive content).
  • Ability to balance experimentation with operational integrity (testing, monitoring, rollback readiness, incident learning).

Nice-to-have

  • Practical experience with observability, logging, and performance troubleshooting in production environments, within SRE or platform operations.
  • Experience integrating AI-enabled workflows or automation platforms into production systems.
  • Exposure to high-volume APIs, publishing pipelines, or market-sensitive delivery environments.

Education and experience

A degree/diploma in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is preferred, though an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates currently completing a relevant degree may also be considered if they can demonstrate applied experience through co-op terms, internships, or project work.

This position typically requires 5-7 years of relevant software development experience in production environments (backend/full-stack development, API integration, and operational support). Exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience may also be considered if they demonstrate equivalent capability through complex production work, integration delivery, and operational support.

Innovative Mindset
We value candidates who demonstrate adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new technologies, including AI and digital tools. We seek individuals who can think critically about data, question existing processes, and find ways to simplify our work while embracing change and new ways of doing things.

The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French.
