What you will do 
As a Sr Developer for the Site Reliability team, you have a breadth of knowledge in high performance web applications, microservices, and REST architecture to help ensure security, availability, reliability, scalability, and high performance. You will work with other specialists who are also database, container, cloud, and networking experts to support all the Bank products. Your skills and experience will help shape the work we do as an operational team supporting products that meet the highest level of availability and reliability at the Bank.
As a Sr Site Reliability Developer, you:

  • Enable metric collection at all layers of a complex infrastructure
  • Ensure end to end monitoring of critical ecosystem components and workflows
  • Plan, design and execute solutions within the infrastructure team to reach specific goals agreed upon for SLA, DR
  • Handle emergency response either by being on-call or by reacting to symptoms according to monitoring and escalation when needed
  • Write testable, efficient, and reusable code suitable for continuous integration and automated deployments, that respects best practices
  • Participate in the planning, design and implementation of relevant architecture, hardware, software and customized software changes
  • Support migration of data sources & log traffic
  • Work autonomously to analyze diagnostic information and/or resolve uncommon or complex problems
  • Provide IT advice to management and colleagues on the appropriate direction, evolution and usage of technology (architectures, systems, issues, opportunities, policies and standards)
  • Pro-actively monitor Log Feeds /flows/alerts for data interruptions and server health
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external counterparts (partners, clients and suppliers) to support operational objectives
  • Provide on-the-job training to colleagues and clients

What you need to succeed

  • You are an effective communicator and have excellent analytical skills which enables you to efficiently prioritize and organize competing work demands with little oversight.  Your strong organizational and problem-solving skills enable you to gather and document business and functional requirements for implementing monitoring. You are a great team player, self-starter and have an eye for change initiatives. 
  • Proficiency with testing and managing high availability environments with performance of disaster recovery tests on a regular basis
  • Experience with state configuration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.)
  • Understanding of load testing, monitoring and performance management tools for every layer of the environment
  • Ability to use scripting languages such as Bash or Python, specifically for systems automation
  • Log management, service, network, and application monitoring experience
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Syslog-NG, Splunk, Solaris, SCOM, etc.
  • Windows / Linux Basic Operations around file system, and basic admin level.
  • Hands-on knowledge on Job Automation and Monitoring 
  • Ability to pick up new technologies and ecosystem components quickly, and establish their relevance, architecture and integration with existing systems
  • Azure, AWS Integration, Infrastructure automation
  • Microservices and container/PaaS experience
  • Experience with DevOps, agile practices


  • Networking & application trouble-shooting background
  • Experience with Capacity Management for Log Solutions (Performance Tuning)
  • Knowledge of Splunk log collection structure would be an asset
  • Experience across a blend of information technology and business settings, ideally in a mix of banking, government or mid- to large-size corporations 

Your education and experience
The position requires a bachelor’s degree or college diploma in computer science with a minimum of 3-5 years of “Hands-On” Infrastructure Automation, Site Reliability / Monitoring experience Previous experience implementing & maintaining logging and monitoring solutions and providing operational support for automation and performance/reliability monitoring processes & procedures

The Bank is conducting a trial of a hybrid working model which provides employees with the flexibility to telework for significant portions of each month. During the trial, employees will only be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person.  For the majority of employees, it is expected that onsite time will range from 5 to 10 days per month, depending on your role.  You are expected to live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $86,769 to $108,461 (job grade 17)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (7 to 10% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
