What you need to know about Digital Experiences (DX) at the Bank of Canada

The Bank of Canada is seeking a Senior Developer, Platform & Workflow Delivery to join the Digital Experiences (DX)team.

DX operates and evolves the Bank’s core digital publishing ecosystem, spanning web infrastructure, websites, web applications, data delivery, and the pipelines that support market-sensitive and policy-cycle releases.

DX services operate at enterprise scale, supporting fixed delivery events such as Fixed Announcement Dates and major publications, alongside high-volume data services like Valet (handling~20–30M calls per month). The ecosystem includes public websites (bankofcanada.ca, www.bankofcanadamuseum.ca ), internal platforms (intranet), and core data and publishing services, including Azure DataMart and the Valet API, as well as the workflows and tools that enable  reliable policy-cycle delivery.

How this role fits within the team

This role focuses primarily on building and evolving the web applications, publishing workflows, and internal tools that run on top of the Bank’s web platforms. It emphasizes application behavior, workflow design, usability, and feature delivery, while relying on shared platform and integration capabilities provided by complementary roles.

DX also supports governed AI-enabled workflows as part of the Bank’s broader digital capabilities. In this role, you will contribute by developing practical workflow and application solutions that responsibly leverage approved language-model services, operating within established governance and security frameworks.

What you will do

Application and workflow delivery

• Lead delivery of web application features and workflow automations across DX platforms, leveraging established services and APIs, with a strong focus on reliability, usability, and operational integrity.
• Design, build and enhance web applications and internal tools within DX technology stack, including PHP/Laravel, Python with supporting front-end technologies.

Integration and platform usage

• Implement and support integrations connecting user-facing applications with data platforms, publishing systems, and internal services.

AI-enabled workflows

• Contribute to governed AI-enabled workflows by implementing and extending components that leverage approved language-model services, including prompt-driven tools, workflow automation, and user-facing interfaces within established governance frameworks.

Production support and quality

• Lead the resolution of complex issues within your area of expertise, including diagnosing production problems, identifying root causes, and implementing improvements that reduce technical debt and operational risk.
• Support operational readiness during high-visibility delivery windows using logging/monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana) and established runbooks.
• Identify and recommend mitigation strategies and trade-offs to maintain solution quality and reduce operational risk.
• Partner with economists, analysts, and stakeholders to clarify requirements, document technical approaches, and plan incremental delivery across release cycles.

Technical leadership

• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing across the team, including support to co-op students and early-career developers.

What you need to succeed

• Hands-on experience developing PHP/Laravel web applications, including API and service integration in production environments.
• Experience with modern development practices, including version control, CI/CD, testing, and code review.
• Working knowledge of AI/ML concepts and interest in applying AI-assisted workflows within software solutions responsibly (privacy, security, and governance-aware usage).
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively with developers, analysts, and stakeholders and explain trade-offs clearly.
• Strong problem-solving skills, able to diagnose issues, propose mitigation strategies and trade-offs, and safely deliver changes in production- environments.

AI competencies that matter

• Curiosity and willingness to learn modern AI-assisted development and workflow tools.
• Practical judgement on when AI adds value and when deterministic solutions are better.
• Awareness of responsible AI use (privacy, security, and appropriate handling of sensitive content).
• Systems thinking and comfort working across applications, APIs, data workflows, and operational tooling.

Nice-to-have

• Experience working in container-based or cloud-aligned environments (e.g., Docker/Kubernetes, Azure) and delivering time-sensitive or high-visibility digital projects
• Exposure to data platforms, analytics environments (e.g., Databricks, Fabric), or workflow automation tools.
• Experience supporting student onboarding, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing within a technical team.

Education and experience

A degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is preferred, though an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates currently completing a relevant degree may also be considered if they can demonstrate applied experience through co-op terms, internships, or project work.

This position typically requires 5–7 years of relevant software development experience delivering production web applications and workflow tooling. Exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience may also be considered if they demonstrate equivalent capability through complex production work, workflow/tooling delivery, and operational support.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

• Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $111,051 to $130,649 (job grade 17)
• The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
