What you will do
As a Quantum Computing Principal Scientist, you will act as a subject matter expert in quantum computing and related areas of data science, big data, and new technologies. This is a unique opportunity to apply your advanced skills and have an instrumental role in expanding the Bank’s capabilities in this area. 


You will lead quantum computing projects from our Data Science Hub. You will find creative ways to develop models, tools and services that drive innovation in the domain. You will own the end-to-end innovation process of discovery, design, and development with respect to quantum computing, apply your in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in quantum computing towards new experiments, models, and studies with application to central banking and macroeconomics.

 

In addition, you will think creatively and help redefine our strategic direction with respect to quantum computing, quantum-inspired and hybrid approaches, liaise and manage relationships related to quantum computing with academia, industry, government agencies, other data scientists, researchers, analysts and other central banks. The position will report directly to the Director of Data Science, while working in a hub-and-spoke environment, responding to priorities from key stakeholders within the Bank. 

 

What you need to succeed

  • demonstrated and in-depth expertise in quantum computing, such as quantum software and hardware, quantum-inspired approaches, applications of quantum computing to simulations and optimizations, and quantum-safe encryption.
  • self-starter and a big-picture thinker with proven skills to identify solutions by discussions with clients and stakeholders.
  • experience in leading quantum computing and/or data driven projects and strategic initiatives in the industry and/or government agencies.

 

Nice-to-have

  • evidence of excellent academic performance including teaching, publication in peer-reviewed high impact journals and/or industrial innovation record is highly desirable
  • post-doctoral fellowship experience with research focus

 

Your education and experience
This position requires a completed Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other related quantitative discipline and a minimum of five years of relevant experience in quantum computing in academia and/or industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

What you need to know

  • Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
  • Security level required: Reliability 
  • You will work remotely from any location within Canada while the Bank operates under mandatory telework. Flexibility for remote work for the duration of the term may be granted.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $95,500 to $119,400 (job grade 18)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (7 to 10% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
