Take a Central Role
A career in cyber security at the Bank of Canada is an opportunity to defend Canada’s critical national infrastructure against cyber security threats.
With the increased sophistication and frequency of cyber-attacks, the Bank’s cyber resilience is a top priority. A key part of the Principal Consultant role will be to contribute to the execution of the Bank’s Cyber Security Strategy through the introduction of new cyber security initiatives, ongoing operations, and continuous improvement activities.

What you will do
You will use your in-depth understanding of the Cyber Security Division’s mission, products, and services to provide strategic technical advice and direction to the Identity and Access Management (IAM) Portfolio staff and leadership.
You will be responsible to translate corporate needs into actionable plans for the evolution of the IAM Portfolio and to work with other Bank portfolios, using your in-depth cyber and enterprise architecture knowledge, to establish new approaches that will advance the IAM governance and operations of the Bank. You will incorporate and align this technical direction with the organization’s strategies and objectives.
In addition, you will:
- Provide technical direction and vision as the Bank-wide IAM authority in terms of IAM products and services direction or support strategies.
- Present emerging cyber risks findings and recommendations to technical and/or business stakeholders at all levels.
- Research and monitor technology developments, industry trends and innovations to assess their applicability, functionality, and reliability for the Bank, and recommend solutions that help clients enhance their cyber protection while balancing with usability.
- Resolve complex problems related to all IAM systems to ensure stable and reliable technology solutions and environments.
- Build long-term relationships or partnerships with internal and external clients and suppliers to support evolving Bank needs and represent the Bank’s interests with stakeholders as required.
- Provide leadership in the development, evolution and promotion of best practices, techniques, methods, and tools.
- Provide authoritative cyber security advice, recommendations and interpretations to colleagues, management, and external contact.
- Lead and promote collaboration of technical experts within IAM portfolio
- Provide coaching to colleagues and help advance the technical and professional development of IAM staff members.
- Develop intellectual capital, document best practices, and contribute to the cyber security knowledge base. e.g. design, develop and support an enterprise-level operation integration framework for IAM, clearly identifying shared accountability and integration points with other teams.
- Engage with Bank support teams and vendors to ascertain technology details pertinent to new technology and issues with existing technology.
What you need to succeed
- Strong technical leadership and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively with technical and/or business stakeholders at all levels.
- An advanced level of understanding and subject-matter experience in Cyber Security Identity and Access Management.
- A proficient level of understanding and experience in several technologies and skills such as:
- Cloud and hybrid cloud solutions
- Networking, virtualization, Operating Systems
- Cyber and IT security tools, monitoring and edge devices
- AI and post-quantum cryptography
- Experience in leading Enterprise-level Agile DevOps projects and strategic initiatives in the Financial industry and/or government agencies.
Nice-to-have
- Cyber Security risk management
- Cyber Security vulnerability management
- SCSA, MCSE, CCNA, CCIE, CISSP or other relevant designation
Your education and experience
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or other related discipline and 8 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. Although the position language requirement is English or French essential, we do encourage everyone to improve second their language proficiency for future career growth and to contribute towards fostering a bilingual environment.

Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $150,707 to $177,302 (job grade 19)
- The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
