Java Developer

About the position
In this IT development and support role you will work with a highly customized third-party trading application called Findur, adding enhancements, fixing bugs and supporting the application.  Experience with Findur or securities trading would be an asset, but not a requirement for this position.

 

As a Java Developer, you will take on coding activities, work on fixing defects as well as large project development work, in addition to performing third line support on a rotational basis.  

 

Your core interpersonal and communication skills will be invaluable as you collaborate with the business support group and end users to explore the future of the application. 

 

Your future responsibilities 

  • analyze, design and implement enhancements to meet business requirements 
  • develop java code to interface with a third-party product
  • develop and execute SQL scripts to work with the database application 
  • maintain collaborative relations with internal clients and external counterparts
  • perform technical and root-cause analysis on issues and make recommendation for correction
  • use the latest development practices, including automated unit testing and DevOps
  • provide third-line support, including on-call, shift and/or weekend work as required

 

Your education and experience

  • bachelor’s degree or diploma in computer science with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in the IT field  

or 

  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered 

 

Your knowledge and skills 
You are a curious, rational and critical thinker whom by nature loves to dig deeper on problems and always questions the “why”.  As an effective communicator, you have the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner. You have a team and security first mentality and can naturally step in to support your co-workers. You prefer to utilize best practices when building integrations to third party systems. 

 

To perform your day to day work you;

  • Have experience with writing clean, maintainable code, services, and utilities both for your own personal use as well as for distribution to other users (specific experience in Java, Python, Jenkins or DevOps considered an asset).
  • Are comfortable working in a variety of OS environments (e.g. Windows, UNIX, etc.)
  • Actively look for opportunities for process improvement or automation and then writing clean, maintainable code in order to erase the manual task or nullify the pain point.
  • Have experience in writing / working with APIs and associated technologies
  • Have an innate fondness for Agile and DevOps methodologies
     

 

Language requirement
English or French essential

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $70,300 to $82,600 (job grade 15)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
