About the opportunity

Help build the next generation of cyber resilience at the Bank. Join the Bank’s Cyber Security team to work on high-priority technical initiatives that strengthen how we detect, respond to, and recover from cyber threats in a rapidly evolving environment.

 

Join a highly skilled team of cyber specialists at the Bank of Canada, where you will play a key role in strengthening the Bank’s identity and access management capabilities. As cyber threats grow in sophistication and frequency, this role will directly contribute to protecting critical systems and enabling secure access for internal and external partners.

 

What you will do  

You will lead the application development and automation activities for Access Control and External Access solutions designed to enable the Bank to identify, protect, detect and respond to cyber threats.

 

More specifically you will:

  • Lead the design and development of modern, secure applications and APIs supporting authentication, authorization, and identity services for internal and external partners
  • Drive end-to-end delivery across the DevOps lifecycle, including design, development, CI/CD, deployment, and operational support
  • Provide technical leadership and hands-on guidance to developers, promoting best practices in secure coding, API design, and cloud-native development
  • Design and implement secure identity integrations using modern standards (OAuth, OpenID Connect, MSAL) and enterprise platforms (e.g., Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Graph)
  • Build and maintain cloud-native solutions on Azure, leveraging services such as App Service, Key Vault, Storage, and API/front-door patterns
  • Ensure solutions are secure, auditable, and aligned with Zero Trust principles, including logging, monitoring, and traceability
  • Lead incident troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, working with operations teams to resolve issues and improving system resilience
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, reducing operational overhead and enhancing reliability and scalability
  • Contribute to the safe adoption of emerging technologies, including Generative AI capabilities, within enterprise security and compliance boundaries
  • Mentor team members and foster a collaborative, high-performing development culture

 

What you need to succeed

You are a leader by example, with the ability to effectively communicate to build and maintain strong relationships and collaborate in a team environment. You also have strong attention to detail, are a self-starter, and capable of grasping new information and providing innovative solutions within the team 

 

In addition, you have:

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript with experience in modern frameworks (React, Angular, or Next.js)
  • Experience building backend services using Node.js, Express, and REST APIs
  • Experience integrating with enterprise platforms (e.g., Microsoft Graph API)
  • Strong experience with authentication and authorization (MSAL or similar), and deep knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML
  • Hands-on experience with Identity Governance (IGA) (entitlements, access lifecycle, delegated administration, auditability) in Entra ID or similar platforms
  • Proven experience building systems aligned with Zero Trust principles and enterprise security standards
  • Hands-on experience with Azure services (App Service, Key Vault, Storage, Front Door, Logic Apps)
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices (Azure DevOps, Git, containers)
  • Strong knowledge of API management and secure API design (Layer7, Apigee, MuleSoft, APIM)
  • Solid understanding of enterprise and web security principles
  • Familiarity with Generative AI concepts and their application in enterprise environments
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation

 

Nice to have:

  • Experience with:
    • Agile/DevOps delivery models
    • IAM/IGA platforms (Entra ID Governance, SailPoint)
    • PKI, TLS, and certificate-based authentication
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust and cloud security patterns
  • Understanding of networking and web protocols (REST, SOAP, JSON/XML)

 

Your education and experience

This position requires a relevant degree or diploma with a minimum of 5 to 8 years of relevant experience based on educational background. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

    • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $126,765 to $149,135 (job grade 18)
    • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
    • Flexible and comprehensive benefits so you can choose the level of health and dental coverage that meets your needs
    • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) that you can purchase to add to your vacation entitlement
    • Option to join the indexed, defined-benefit pension plan after 24 consecutive months of service
