Hybrid Cloud Storage Architect

About the position
The Bank of Canada (BoC), Business Recovery Enhancement (BRE) Program within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department, has an immediate requirement for a Hybrid Cloud Storage Architect to provide ongoing storage architectural leadership, implementation governance and operational support for a variety of upcoming projects.
 
Your role will be to identify the features and deficiencies of the existing technology stack, the resource will then help perform an evaluation of technologies that can exceed the capabilities of the current platform.  You will also need to gain an in-depth understanding of the existing business processes and procedures as they relate to storage and analyze them in relation to the technology solutions to formulate recommendations for improvements.  The Storage Architect will work closely with business analysts and storage support specialists to define how deployments are completed and how improvements can be introduced. 

 

This position works within a matrixed environment reporting Director of BRE while being tasked by transformation project managers.

Your future responsibilities
When you join the team, you will:

 

  • Develop and document recommendations on future architecture/design choices for the storage environment at the BoC in support of application and infrastructure transformations
  • Perform technology evaluations of public cloud storage offerings for suitability of Bank workloads including establishing a strategy for data/file system management on and off premises (i.e. cloud)
  • Plan evergreening of hardware/software
  • Plan and coordinate the implementation of system enhancements
  • Perform quality assurance activities, including problem analysis, testing and debugging
  • Recommends best practices and related policies for storage
  • Will work closely with operational teams to ensure the highest level of availability of storage and data protection support to the general Bank population
  • Collaborate with operational teams to understand how automation can improve workflow
  • Build and maintain third-level MOPs (Methods of Procedure)

 

Your education and experience

  • University Degree or College Diploma in computer science, management of information systems or engineering

 

and

 

  • Ten years of IT work experience with at least five years of experience in architectural design and support of storage solutions including the following BRE standard technologies:
    • NetApp FAS and AFF (Data ONTAP 9.X and up)
    • Dell EMC Isilon (OneFS 7.2 and up)
    • Commvault (v11 and up)
    • VMware VSAN (v6.6 and up)
    • VMware vReplication (all versions)
    • Dell EMC RecoverPoint for VM (v5 and up)

  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Your knowledge and skills
As an experienced Solutions Architect, you have worked with file systems and NAS protocols (CIFS/SMB, NFS and iSCSI) including experience with large scale NAS implementations, migrations and/or upgrades.  You have working knowledge Windows and Unix file system privilege structure and design.  You will contribute via direct hands-on experience troubleshooting and resolving issues with storage solutions within a complex environment.  You also have knowledge of storage offerings in Microsoft Azure public cloud and AWS public cloud.

 

Language requirement
English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of intermediate (level 3) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of functional (level 4) in second official language.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $92,500 to $115,600 (job grade 18)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (7 to 10% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
