About the positions
Reporting to the Assistant Director, AE Business Applications Services, you will be part of a team of dedicated and innovative information technology (IT) professionals that interact regularly with clients to communicate regarding the resolution of issues and provide technical support. Specifically, as an HPC Specialist with the Analytic Environment Support Team, your contribution is crucial for creating and updating critical business systems while supporting key business lines that are quintessential to the integrity of the Bank’s Economic Analytics and HPC Platform.

 

Your future responsibilities 
As an HPC Developer, you will assist end-users with program optimization, parallelization, algorithm implementation and debugging and carry out software upgrades and enhancements on the Bank’s HPC cluster. You will create and deliver training to end-users on how to access and use parallel computing and how to use econometric tools. 

 

You will provide technical expertise for the Bank’s Economic Computational Environments, including:

  • tool innovation
  • infrastructure leadership and evergreening
  • process and policy support and guidance
  • containerization and platform modernization
  • how to leverage cloud environments to enhance our computational services.

 

As a subject matter expert, you will monitor external trends and business practices to provide input for strategic direction and you will provide advice to colleagues and develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external counterparts (partners, clients and suppliers) to support operational objectives.  

 

You will also participate in peer reviews of solution designs and related code, monitor application performance for potential bottlenecks and support the performance of functional and basic technical analysis, including finding the root cause and handling communications with users. You will support the design, development, testing, deployment and interfaces between various internal hardware and software and respond to trouble tickets submitted by service clients, including triage and resolution of technical and application problems.

 

Your education and experience

  • a completed college or university degree or preferably a Master’s or PhD in either information technology, economics or a quantitative science and a minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience

or

  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

 

Assets 

  • experience with a parallel scheduling tool, e.g. SLURM
  • knowledge of data science, including machine learning techniques and tools
  • experience working in a support capacity 

 

Your knowledge and skills 

We are looking for a team player with strong communication skills who can adapt to a quickly changing environment and can context shift.  You can quickly learn new concepts and software and demonstrate the ability to set priorities and monitor projects and initiatives.  You are a mentor and have excellent leadership skills which enables you to provide coaching and obtain co-operation from others.  You have solid analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions when giving advice or making recommendations.  

You have experience with scientific programming languages & libraries and Big Data tools (e.g., MATLAB, R, Fortran, Python, MPI, Apache Spark)

 

You have knowledge in the following:

  • parallel/scientific computing
  • Linux/Unix, including administration and configuration
  • developing clean, efficient and maintainable code using well-established software engineering practices
     

 

Language requirement
English or French essential

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $85,500 to $108,100 (job grade 17)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (7 to 10% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
