What you will do
As the Director, Speechwriting and Policy Content, you will lead a team of speech and content writers and work closely with members of the Bank’s Governing Council, senior Bank management, and subject-matter experts from across the Bank to produce high-profile communications products that reflect the Bank’s thinking on critical policy issues. You will also work closely with colleagues to ensure an integrated approach to the planning and delivery of public speaking activities, and that messages are clear, consistent, accessible and timely.

 

As a contributing speechwriter and content creator, you will draft and produce sensitive, high-profile, high-quality products including speeches, publications, presentations, speaking notes, and other communications products on a full range of subjects, and for diverse audiences.  

 

In addition, you will: 

  • provide intellectual leadership, subject matter expertise and coaching to a high-performing team of speechwriters. 
  • coordinate the planning and workflow of the team, and provide thoughtful, relevant communications advice in the development of speeches and other policy-related communications products. 
  • lead peer-review and quality control processes for content produced by the speechwriting and policy content team.
  • conduct in-depth research and analysis related to the subject matter of speeches, presentations, and other communications materials to be able to write authoritatively on the subject.
  • provide strategic communications advice to Bank leaders and spokespeople. 
  • contribute to the strategic planning of Governing Council public speaking activities.

 

What you need to succeed

  • leadership experience in a related field
  • knowledge of the Bank of Canada, financial and economic issues, the media and the overall public environment
  • ability to interpret and understand Bank documents and summarize key narratives in accessible language
  • superior writing skills and an excellent command of a range of content creation tools 
  • an ability to plan and manage activities in an environment requiring co-operation, coordination, high attention to detail and flexibility to meet objectives
  • proven ability to effectively manage priorities, work under pressure, and with tight deadlines 

 

Your education and experience
This position requires a master’s degree in communications, journalism, economics, business, or related subjects, seven years of experience in corporate communications or in economics and finance, and a minimum of three years of experience in a leadership or managerial role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

What you need to know

  • Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
  • Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Secret

Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $147,752 to $173,825 (job grade 19)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
  • Flexible and comprehensive benefits so you can choose the level of health and dental coverage that meets your needs
  • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) that you can purchase to add to your vacation entitlement
  • Option to join the indexed, defined-benefit pension plan after 24 consecutive months of service
