About the role
Reporting to Assistant Director, IM Lifecycle and Collaboration and working under the direction of the Technical Team Lead, the Digital Lifecycle and Archives Specialist provides essential expertise in the management, preservation, and accessibility of the Bank’s digital and physical records, both active and historical. The role combines expertise in digital lifecycle compliance, archival standards, and enterprise information platforms to ensure legislative compliance, safeguard of institutional memory, and support the Bank of Canada’s digital transformation.
This position works at the intersection of information governance, records management and archival practice, and modern collaboration technologies, contributing to both day‑to‑day operations and digital transformation initiatives, including the design and implementation of AI solutions.
What you will do
- Oversee the secure disposition and destruction of digital records that meet approved retention criteria, including coordinating approvals and responding to questions on records disposition.
- Apply archival principles and digital lifecycle standards to ensure records stored in corporate repositories are preserved, accessible, and managed in compliance with legislative and policy requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance systems, metadata, and descriptions that support lifecycle management, archival discovery, and long‑term preservation, including the classification of digital records.
- Contribute to the development of specialized archival products such as exhibits and historical presentations that support outreach, engagement, and knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues, service partners, and clients to solve complex information management and archival challenges, escalating issues as required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to digital preservation, digital records management, the storage strategy for physical records, and the design and implementation of AI and automation solutions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, ITS, and vendors to design and develop system configurations that embed information policies into various corporate repositories, maintaining a bank-wide approach to compliant lifecycle management.
What you need to succeed
- Strong knowledge of digital records management practices, archival principles, related standards such as Rules for Archival Description (RAD) and ISO 15489 (Records Management).
- Ability to interpret and apply legislative, policy, and archival requirements in digital environments.
- Experience working with enterprise information and collaboration platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to a wide range of stakeholders and provide practical advice and guidance.
- Openness to learning and change, with an interest in evolving digital tools and AIenabled ways of working.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams to improve processes and support digital and data initiatives.
Nice‑to‑have
- Experience supporting or implementing digital preservation initiatives.
- Experience developing or applying metadata standards in enterprise systems.
- Experience contributing to outreach, exhibits, or historical research products.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled tools to enhance information discovery, description, or lifecycle management.
Your education and experience
The position requires a college or university degree in archives, information management, library science, or a related field, along with at least 3 to 4 years of experience working in records management or archives environment or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional). If a qualified candidate who meets the language requirement of the position is not found, a qualified candidate who does not meet the language requirement may be considered. Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $82,586 to $97,160 (job grade 15)
- The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (3%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
