The Bank partners with other Government Organizations to manage the Regulatory Reporting for all Financial Institutions across Canada. This role will take an active role in supporting that key business mandate as well as being on the ground floor as we look to new technologies and capabilities to innovate how the government collects regulatory reporting data.
The Analytics Environment and Currency Portfolio is exploring new data and analytics technologies (i.e. machine learning, AI) to empower the next generation of economic analysis and insight. This role will be present as our current data and analytic infrastructure is enhanced to meet the demands of a modern data-centric Central Bank. 


About the position
We are establishing a pool of pre-qualified candidates to staff Developer positions within the Analytics Environment and Currency Portfolio in our Information Technology Services Department.  This team provides the applications, software and hardware to support the business functions of the Bank’s currency and economic departments.


As a Developer, you are part of a dedicated and innovative team that maintains, integrates and builds solutions key to our internal and external stakeholders. Your contribution is crucial as we improve and transform operational and research services to provide a more robust working environment for Bank Staff and Our Partners. 


Your future responsibilities
Your main role will be to deliver maintenance support, bug fixes and optimizations of existing applications, and integrations and engineer and support data pipelines from acquisition to discovery. You will write automated tests for new and existing software systems and report to your team daily by participating in scrums and stand-ups.  You will also take an active role in code reviews and feature analysis as well as participate in product feature discovery and technical experiments. Finally, you will support and develop APIs to enable the simple sharing of data internally and externally. 


Your education and experience

  • bachelor’s degree or college diploma in computer science with a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in the IT field  


  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered 


Your knowledge and skills 
You are a curious, rational and critical thinker whom by nature loves to dig deeper on problems and always questions the “why”.  As an effective communicator, you have the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner. You have a team and security first mentality and can naturally step in to support your co-workers. You prefer to utilize best practices when building integrations to third party systems. 


To perform your day to day work you;

  • Have experience with writing clean, maintainable scripts, services, and utilities both for your own personal use as well as for distribution to other users (specific experience in Python, Shell, Jenkins or Selenium considered an asset).
  • Are comfortable working in a variety of OS environments (e.g. Windows, UNIX, etc.)
  • Actively look for opportunities for process improvement or automation and then writing clean, maintainable code in order to erase the manual task or nullify the pain point.
  • Have experience in writing / working with APIs and associated technologies
  • Have an innate fondness for Agile and DevOps methodologies
  • Are interested in working with docker, kubernetes, and other container technologies


Language requirement
English or French essential

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $61,500 to $72,262 (job grade 14)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
