About the position  

We are seeking interested candidates with a background in software testing and strong interpersonal skills to join a Scrum Team of dedicated and innovative professionals. You will have the opportunity make key contributions that will be crucial in creating and updating critical financial, trading, and market collection systems which support major financial institutions, central banks, and the citizens of Canada. These operations go on quietly and efficiently behind the scenes, every day—typically around 2000 transactions a day, valued at about $100 billion. 

 

Further – you will also have the full support of your leader and team to learn, grow, and further your career through the Bank’s customizable Learning & Development programs across various domains (IT, QA, Cyber, Data Analytics, etc..) and certifications.  

 

What you will do 

As a QA Analyst, you collaborate with the Scrum Team to understand the implementation of features by questioning how those features will handle various scenarios and apply your testing experience and expertise to ensure that automated tests are performed at the accurate level (unit, service or UI layer).  

 

More specifically you will: 

  • Develop acceptance criteria and test cases (automated or otherwise) for the product; 

  • Create and contribute to mechanisms to enable easy testing of all code in a timely and effective manner; 

  • Break down work to the smallest valuable and feasible increment; 

  • Estimate capacity, velocity and throughput to enable accurate forecasting; 

  • Help improve backlog clarity and maintenance processes; 

  • Research, evaluate and make recommendations that support or improve Scrum Team processes or improve testing 

  • Write the necessary amount of documentation to support the ongoing usage of the products developed by the Scrum Team 

  • Understand the testing framework and mentor others in its usage; 

  • Design and deliver software testing workshops and practice sessions for other team members; 

  • Inspire others to identify the motivating aspects of testing; 

 

What you need to succeed 

You are an effective communicator with the ability to cultivate trust by contributing to a safe environment for healthy interaction and meaningful collaboration while encouraging a culture of continuous improvement. You also support Agile thinking and enjoy working in rapidly changing environments while innovatively finding solutions to complex problems. 

 

In addition, you have a strong understanding and/or experience in the following: 

  • Working in a Scrum team / Agile environment  

  • Testing APIs, web applications, third-party applications and their integration with other systems 

  • Developing and maintaining automated test scripts 

  • Using Exploratory Testing techniques 

 

Nice-to-have: 

  • Previous experience working in a financial, banking, and/or payments environment  

  • Using source-control software to manage group software projects (Git, etc..)  

  • Building deployment software to manage test execution 

  • Developing and maintaining performance test scripts 

  • Analyzing customer needs and converting them to User Stories 

  • Modelling business processes 

 

Your education and experience 

Any relevant combination of education and experience which demonstrate that you have the experience, and/or are effective at learning and applying new skills will be considered. We are ideally seeking candidates with a relevant degree/diploma and 3+ years of relevant experience.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $83,500 to $98,235 (job grade 16)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay. The first tier of performance pay is for successfully meeting expectation, at  5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay for those who exceed expectations (10% of your base salary).. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
