How you will make a difference
You will join the Data and Digital Services (DDS) Department and report to the Assistant Director, Data Science. As a hands-on AI expert who thrives in a collaborative, experimentation-driven environment, you will design, build, and deliver end-to-end AI and data science solutions that support AI-focused projects and services across the Bank of Canada. Your work will enable economists and policy teams to access high-quality data, deploy trusted and well-governed models, strengthen analytical tools and processes, and translate insights into real policy impact. In this role, you directly support the Bank’s core mandate to maintain low and stable inflation and ensure a resilient, efficient financial system.
What You Will Do
In this role, you are accountable for designing end‑to‑end architectures for AI/ML solutions within the Bank of Canada’s technology ecosystem. You work closely with business lines to develop a deep understanding of their needs and context, and you take an active role in building AI solutions. You ensure these solutions are effectively designed, integrated, governed, and scaled across the Bank’s platforms.
More specifically you will:
- Architect, design, and implement AI/ML solutions that meet business and technical requirements across platforms including Azure and Databricks, with a focus on value to business, performance, security, and alignment with the Bank’s technology strategy. This may include:
- Developing AI orchestration processes and solutions
- Applying standardized tool access protocols such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Integrate AI and ML systems into existing data and technology ecosystems by:
- Developing AI solutions and services within the Bank’s approved technology strategy and ecosystem
- Championing best practices for architecture, governance, and system interoperability
- Leveraging model validation and monitoring platforms to manage bias, drift, and unintended behaviours, while applying mandatory human oversight for risk sensitive or regulated use cases
- Drive innovation and technical excellence by:
- Evaluating and recommending new AI/ML tools, frameworks, and methodologies
- Maintaining and evolving a Tech Radar
- Leading regular knowledge sharing sessions to strengthen team expertise
- Leading end-to-end projects, including concept development and planning, architecture and solution design, development and deployment and, handover and operational transition
- Collaborate actively with DDS partners including data scientists, platform engineers, data engineers as well as with client departments to interpret business needs and to ensure value-added development and delivery.
- Communicate clearly with clients and leadership by translating complex technical concepts into actionable decisions, presenting clear roadmaps, and emphasizing measurable outcomes
- Ensure architectures support explainability, traceability, and reproducibility of AI outcomes
What You Need to Succeed
- Proven experience in architecting and delivering multiplatform AI/ML solutions at enterprise scale (Azure, Databricks, Foundry).
- Deep expertise in Databricks (e.g., notebooks, MLflow, Unity Catalog, Agent Bricks) and Azure services relevant to AI/ML
- Strong software engineering skills (e.g., Python, R), reproducible workflows, version control, (GitHub, Markdown), and CI/CD for ML (MLOps/DevOps)
- Experience with implementing AI orchestrators and standardised tool access protocols such as MCP
- Hands-on work with unstructured and machine-readable document pipelines
- Up-to-date knowledge of emerging AI /ML technologies and trends
- Strong project management skills and stakeholder-engagement skills
- Strong change agility and comfort navigating ambiguity
- Excellent strategic business communication skills
- Effective coaching skills to support performance and growth
AI Competencies That Matter
- Curiosity and willingness to explore emerging AI techniques
- Ability to balance experimentation with responsible and ethical AI practices
- Systems thinking and comfort working across complex data and tech ecosystems
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with time series methods (forecasting, anomaly detection, temporal causal inference) would be considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of machine learning and statistical modeling across the full model lifecycle
- Familiarity with economic models and MATLAB
Education and Experience
The position requires a completed college or bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, AI, Data Science, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in applied AI/ML solution design and architecture. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional). Remote work / Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office. For this position, should you not live within reasonable commuting distance of the office, you will be able to work 100% remote (within Canada) for the duration of this term.

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $111,051 to $130,649 (job grade 17)
- The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
