A pool of prequalified candidates will be created to fill security officer positions that become available over the next six months. The positions may be temporary or permanent; however, permanent positions will be offered first to candidates currently in temporary positions.

 

What you will do 
Reporting to the Manager of Security Operations at our Montreal Agency Operations Centre (MAOC), you manage risks to the Bank of Canada's information, personnel, visitors and physical assets by countering threats with appropriate protective safeguards through your physical presence as an armed security officer. 


You respond to emergencies (e.g., fire alarms, health and safety, intrusion alarms, access control violations) and assist colleagues as required to ensure that the security of Bank sites is maintained. 


You operate state-of-the-art security equipment by conducting surveillance of vital areas of the Bank: monitoring alarms, detecting intrusion and directing response officers in an emergency. 


As a Security Officer you ensure the safety and security of our facilities, staff, and assets. In this role, you will monitor access, verify and authorize employees, vendors, and visitors, manage the visitor management database, and issue or collect temporary passes, as well as support internal employees in troubleshooting any card issues. You will also respond to alarms, activate emergency protocols, and communicate with management during incidents. 
Your responsibilities include observing and investigating suspicious activities, preparing detailed reports on incidents, and escorting personnel and visitors in high-security areas. You will greet guests at entry points, maintain collaborative relationships with staff, and provide security support for special events. The ideal candidate will possess strong observational and communication skills, a background in security or law enforcement, and the ability to perform under pressure, with a commitment to maintaining a secure environment.


What you need to succeed 
We are looking for an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and tact in dealing with personnel at various levels within the Bank and with visitors. 
You must be capable of working independently and in a team environment where mutual support is essential. 


You must respect confidentiality of information and operate effectively and calmly in stressful emergency situations. Additionally, you should demonstrate self-motivation, initiative, and flexibility while working well under pressure. Furthermore, it is essential to exercise sound judgment and escalate complex problems or situations to your supervisor when required.
 
As a Security Officer, you must possess a valid firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), for restricted and non-restricted firearms and you must successfully complete a psychological and physical assessment, including completing the Bank’s mandatory Officer training program 4 weeks, paid. You must be available to work shifts 24/7 (days, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays). 
 
Mandatory Officer Training Program
Week 1 – Use of Force (5 days) – must pass
Week 2 – Firearms (Pistol/Shotgun) (5 days) – must pass
Week 3 – SOPs/Security Systems training (5 days) 
Week 4 – On Post training (5 days)
 
You must have the following: 

  • advanced knowledge of access-control, intrusion detection, and alarm monitoring systems, closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other related security systems 
  • advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word 
  • sound knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada (sections pertaining to the use of force and the powers of arrest) 

 

Nice-to-have 

  • ability to communicate effectively in both official languages 
  • defensive tactics training 
  • police or military experience 
  • previous experience in an armed role 

 

Your education and experience 

The position requires a post-secondary certificate or diploma in a security field or police foundations with a minimum of three years of security experience in a highly secured environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French.  The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional).  If a qualified candidate who meets the language requirement of the position is not found, a qualified candidate who does not meet the language requirement may be considered. Training may be provided to help reach the required level.  Both bilingual and unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $69,598 to $78,288 (job grade 13)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  3 to 5% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (2%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
