Did you know?
As part of the Communications Department, the Translation Services team ensures that the Bank of Canada communicates effectively with its various Francophone audiences, both internal and external. The incumbent of this position will play a key role in achieving this mission, working closely with a team of 15 other translation, revision and terminology professionals.

What you will do
You translate general and specialized texts from English to French mostly independently, ensuring Translation Services’ quality standards and deadlines are met. You also contribute regularly to the translation of the Bank’s publications, speeches, technical economic texts and other high visibility material under the supervision of a Translator-Reviser. You apply the principles of plain and simple language in your work, and may be asked to adapt communications specifically for Francophone audiences. As needed, you revise the output of colleagues or external service providers and provide linguistic advice to Bank staff, including management. You actively manage special translation projects, thinking innovatively to find solutions to problems, and are occasionally called upon to coordinate the proofreading of specific publications.

What you need to succeed
As an experienced Translator, you are proficient in both the source and target languages (English and French) and have a strong knowledge of translation, revision and adaptation techniques. You can work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and occasionally work overtime. You are able to work effectively independently as well as within a team. You have a strong knowledge of desktop applications (e.g. Microsoft Office), commonly used translation databases as well as computer-assisted translation tools. You are very familiar with the principles of plain and simple language and you know how to apply them to the translation of texts for the general public.

As a team player, you treat colleagues with respect and readily offer them your help, when needed. You strongly believe in developing productive working relationships to create a positive work environment. As an effective communicator, you confidently express your views and actively listen while respecting the ideas and opinions of others. Building on your excellent organizational skills and initiative, you manage priorities effectively and take the necessary steps to achieve goals and deliver projects. Your curiosity and creativity allow you to solve problems in an innovative way. Finally, you are able to positively adapt to a changing work environment, within the context of the Bank’s strong focus on innovation.
