About the position
The Information Technology Services’ Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) portfolio is in the midst of a transformational change.  I&O is structuring itself towards an IT-Business collaboration model, that has both internal and business-facing units promoting the value of our modern and resilient IT landscape.  

 

At the core of the new landscape is the "Software Defined Data Centre", built on highly scalable hyper-converged systems.  Unlike traditional or converged systems, these datacentres-in-a-box enable everything via software; storage, network, security, compute, all enabled through code - untapped potential waiting to be enabled in the service of an application.

 

As an ideal candidate, your mindset is to minimize infrastructure customization while being well versed in the merits of what I&O can already offer.  You are able to identify the business value in what I&O is delivering when speaking to ITS colleagues and/or the Business.  You maintain a view that looks for opportunities to promote task automation in your area of specialization; and, in support of other areas. On-call rotation will be required.

 

Your future responsibilities

  • The creation of value by applying your specialization to different activities (ie internal operations, automation, development of innovative solutions etc.).
  • Works with our business portfolio clients to represent your area of specialization in solving business challenges or driving new capabilities.
  • A willingness to explore and adopt the of integration of new technologies and methods.
  • Learning agility with the ability to support your peers with knowledge as required.  
  • Work in a climate of open mindset to experiment and keep abreast of industry evolutions.
  • Able to understand and identify key stakeholders to sustain effective relationships.

  • Responsible for identifying and recommending acceptable mitigation strategies and trade-offs to maintain quality of solutions

 

Your education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Five (5) + years of experience as a hands-on Technical resource at a senior level

or

  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

 

Assets 

  • Programming/Scripting Languages such as C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, PowerShell, Python, SQL
  • Database design (structure and concepts)
  • Continuous Integration /Continuous Delivery methodologies
  • Experience with Ansible, AWS, Azure, Jira
  • Platforms (Linux, Windows)


Your knowledge and skills 
As a Technical Lead, reporting to the Assistant Director of Client Services and Support Integration, you will be responsible for the overall planning, execution and success of complex solutions to meet Operations and Business needs. The expertise focus of this technical lead position is mid-tier and PaaS applications.

 

Differentiating Competencies:

  • Provide leadership to a team of business and technical support specialists.
  • Experience of leading a PaaS/SaaS/DevOps team in a complex highly available secure enterprise environment.
  • Creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
  • Deep understanding of technologies, business drivers, and emerging computing trends.
  • Understanding of infrastructure design, including public and private cloud, networking, virtualization, identity, security and storage.

 

Skills:

  • Container, Orchestrator and DevOps tool chains (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Git, Jenkin)
  • Integration Solutions (Oracle SOA, IBM DataPower & Exadata, Red Hat Fuse)
  • Middleware Technology (WebSphere, WebLogic, Jboss) 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey advanced technical concepts effectively
  • Strong people skills, ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and gain consensus in an organization
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, ability to develop effective long-term solutions to complex problems

 

Language requirement
English or French essential

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $83,900 to $104,800 (job grade 17)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (7 to 10% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
